On the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, I phoned up Patrick Armstrong.
“Hey. We’re all going to the Prytania to see Benjamin Button tomorrow night. You wanna come?”
“Tomorrow night?”
“Yeah.”
“But…but…there’s football on the teevee!”
It turned out he was wrong, football was on the teevee the following night. We saw Benjamin Button and we loved it.
Meanwhile, I had read this goofy article in the Wall Street Journal about how some retarded Russian dude is going around saying that the United States is going to break up into separate countries by 2010. I loved the map at the bottom. I thought, “huh? The entire south is going to throw in with Texas and ‘fall under the influence of Mexico?’ Get outta town.”
Luckily, Patrick saw the same article and took the time to carefully spell out exactly why this could never happen as projected. For one thing, it would screw up the entire football schedule.
