cynthia: please, PLEASE, for god’s sake, stop helping November 1, 2007

Via Oyster and Editor B, Cynthia Willard-Lewis is at it again. Unbelievable. Amid much civility and collegiality on the City Council, we have entered into two absurdly corrupt garbage contracts with companies who donated to Willard-Lewis’ and Nagin’s campaigns. We’ve apparently decided that the delicate garbage ladies at Richards and Metro can’t strain their backs picking up more than 25 lbs. of ruined house debris. So what do you think Cynthia wants to do? She wants to order Ed Blakely to find some more of OUR money so that City Hall can go directly into the garbage business! Definitely, Cynthia. Cut out the middle garbage men and just steal the money directly, why don’t you? In fact, why don’t we just send our checks to you?

Willard-Lewis, like city Sanitation Director Veronica White, said she does not believe it is the responsibility of Richard’s and Metro to collect debris under the existing trash contracts. Both are minority-owned companies based in her eastern New Orleans district, and together the companies have donated $6,500 to her current campaign, state records show. The companies gave $27,500 to Nagin’s political war chest between 2002 and 2006, when both were subcontractors under the city’s previous sanitation deal. - Times-Picayune

$6,500 to Willard-Lewis’ current campaign? How much have the people involved given to her previous campaigns?

Alvin Richard, president of Richard’s Disposal, declined to comment for this story. Metro President Jimmie Woods did not respond to an e-mail and a phone call seeking comment. - Times-Picayune

Well, I guess not.

“You can’t ask people to come back, and not pick up their debris,” [Willard-Lewis] said. “It’s not right, when they’ve not even gotten their Road Home money, to put additional burdens on them.” - Times Picayune

It’s not right to do that to people? Then why the fuck did you do it?

“The city’s solid waste collection contractors do not collect piles of loose debris,” [City sanitation director Veronica] White said. - Times-Picayune

Well, why not, Veronica? What part of “hundreds of thousands of destroyed and damaged buildings plus hundreds of thousands of poor people, some still scattered all over creation” did ya’ll not understand? God forbid anyone should have to go out of their way to help the citizens who have been kicked down into the gutter for over two years. Why don’t you just tell us all to go to hell? Oh, wait - you already did.

The measure was drafted by the Nagin administration and sponsored by Willard-Lewis. It was approved unanimously by six council members; Councilwoman Stacy Head was absent.

Willard-Lewis said last week she recognized the apparent discrepancy between the contract language and the terms of the new ordinance.

“I guess the glitch is: What do you mean when you say ‘unlimited’?” she said. - Times-Picayune

Well, at least everyone was collegial. Looks like even that crazy Shelley Midura went along with this. I am so glad to know that no one got their feelings hurt, and no one tossed around any accusations. This makes the lawyers on the City Council look like they are unable to read English.

Willard-Lewis acknowledged that the contracts’ combined cost far exceeds the price of the city’s previous sanitation agreement with Waste Management. She said the additional money has gone to pay for the wheeled plastic bins that the city is to provide free to every household; for semiautomated service, which uses mechanical arms to hoist trash from the bins into garbage trucks; and for real-time, satellite tracking of trash pickup and identification of lost bins using bar codes. - Times-Picayune

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha! Satellite tracking of garbage and lost $96 garbage cans? Yeah, Cynthia, you credulous moron. They are tracking our garbage cans with SATELLITES! And, you know what? The CIA implanted a receiver in my head and it’s making me pick up Eskimo radio stations from the North Pole. Sheesh. Wait, be quiet. They’re playing “Ball of Confusion.”
